Step 01

Harvesting N'Galama Leaves — Natural Dye Source

June – August · Segou Region, Mali

Leaves are hand-harvested and shade-dried for 7 days — the first step in authentic Bogolan natural dyeing.

Decoction & Natural Dye Bath

3–5 days · Dafinso workshop

Leaves macerate in heated water, releasing natural pigments that dye the hand-spun West African cotton fabric.

Fermented Mud Painting — Bogolan Patterns

5–10 days · Master artisans

Iron-rich fermented mud reacts with tannins, creating the deep black patterns that define authentic Bogolan African textile art.
